About the course Upper-Intermediate Dutch

Do you already have a solid foundation in Dutch but still find it difficult to understand texts and respond quickly and spontaneously? In the Advanced Dutch (B2) course, you’ll learn to listen, read, write, and speak Dutch at an advanced level. You’ll practice the language through topics such as sustainability, work and the economy, and infrastructure and urban planning. This will help you expand your vocabulary and respond and communicate more quickly in everyday life.

In 34 Dutch lessons:

  • you can understand most authentic, contemporary texts, audio, and video;
  • you can respond to a complaint and give a (brief) presentation;
  • you actively participate in conversations and discussions in Dutch;
  • you write emails and texts in which you exchange information and/or share your opinion;
  • you’ll expand your vocabulary by about 2,000 new words;
  • You’ll communicate with greater confidence in academic, professional, and personal settings.

Standard or Intensive Option
This course consists of 34 sessions and is available in two options. In the standard option, you attend classes twice a week. If you choose the intensive option, you attend classes four times a week and complete the course at a faster pace. The content and learning objectives are the same for both options.

In the course, you will work toward language level B2. This level corresponds to the State Exam in Dutch as a Second Language (NT2), Program II. Upon completion, you will have developed advanced skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. After the course, you can continue with Advanced Dutch Course (B2→B2+).

Approach

During the meetings, you work a lot in small groups or pairs, always under the guidance of an experienced teacher. You will practice the different skills in class.

Teaching Materials

You will work with the book “The Final. This book is specially designed to prepare highly educated people for the Staatsexamen NT2, program II. In addition to practical assignments and exercises that will also appear on the exam, the book also contains a language aid with practical tips and a reference work for grammar. Before the start of the course, we will inform you how you can easily order the teaching materials so that you can start your lesson well prepared.

How do I know which Dutch language level suits me?

To make sure you enrol at the right level, you can take our free placement test. This test will help you assess your current level of Dutch. Once you’ve completed it, the test will be marked by one of our experienced teachers, who will provide you with personalised feedback. That way, you’ll know exactly which level suits you best.

Can I catch up on a missed Dutch class?

Unfortunately, in group courses it is not possible to make up a missed lesson, because the lessons take place at fixed times for the whole group. Through the lesson materials, homework and lesson plan in MyBabel, you can work through the missed material independently so that you can continue to follow the course well.

Can I pay for my Dutch course in installments?

You pay the course fee in a single payment. You can do this upon registration via iDEAL, credit card, or by having your employer pay the invoice.

What is the difference between a regular and intensive Dutch course?
