Overview of all our Chinese language courses

Would you like to learn Mandarin Chinese and master all aspects of the Chinese language? In our Chinese courses for beginners (Courses 1 through 5), you’ll build a solid foundation that will allow you to navigate everyday situations with ease. Ideal, for example, for a study or business trip to China or Taiwan.

We offer Chinese language courses for both beginners and advanced learners. The courses are interactive and practical.

• On-site lessons
  Are you interested in in-person classes? If so, you’ll take Chinese lessons in small groups at our historic building on Nieuwegracht in Utrecht. Our building is very centrally located and easy to reach. It’s a 10-minute walk from the train station to Babel. Plus, we have plenty of parking if you’d rather drive.
• Class in the virtual classroom
  The virtual classroom is an online classroom. Together with your fellow students, you’ll take classes led by an experienced language teacher. In addition to all the features of a real classroom, the virtual classroom also offers fun online tools, such as an interactive whiteboard and live quizzes.

• Although we often refer to it as “Chinese” when we mean the language, Mandarin is the official name for the language.
• Mandarin has many dialects that can differ significantly from one another. If you take a Chinese language course at Babel, you’ll mainly be learning Standard Mandarin. This is the most widely spoken variety of Chinese and is used, for example, in education and government.
• You can also write the sound of a Chinese word in Mandarin using letters from our alphabet. This is called “Pinyin.”
• Did you know that a syllable in Chinese can have many different meanings? That's because the meaning depends on the tone with which it is pronounced and its position in the sentence.
