Funding and discounts

A language course is an investment in yourself. In your self-confidence. In your future in the Netherlands or elsewhere. That’s why, at Babel, we work with you to find the best solution when it comes to costs. You don’t always have to pay for a course yourself. Sometimes DUO contributes. Sometimes your employer does. And sometimes you get a discount.

Your employer contributes to the cost

Do you want to communicate more effectively and confidently at work? If so, there’s a good chance your employer will cover (part of) the cost of your language course.

Many organisations have a training budget for personal and professional development. A language course at Babel is often included, especially if language skills help you perform better at work.

Here’s how to go about it

 • Ask your employer about your training budget or training scheme
 • Use our course description as supporting evidence
 • When you register, please indicate that your employer is paying.

Using your transition allowance

Have you lost your job or is this likely to happen? Then you can use your transition allowance for training. This can include a language course at Babel. This way, you increase your chances of finding a new job and make a targeted investment in your next career step. Are you not sure if your situation qualifies? We’d be happy to help you to sort this out.

Paying with a DUO loan (for integration courses)

Do you live in the Netherlands and need to integrate into Dutch society? If so, you can pay for your Dutch language course at Babel using a DUO loan.

When you enrol on a language course at Babel, you should indicate that you wish to use a DUO loan. If you are eligible for this loan, DUO will pay the course fees directly to Babel. The money will not be paid into your own bank account.

Would you like to know exactly how the DUO loan works? Please visit the DUO website. Would you like to know how Babel can help you with your integration? Then you can read more on our page about integration.

Frequently asked questions

What is a transition allowance?
A transition allowance is a financial payment that your employer makes to you when your employment contract is terminated (at the employer’s initiative). This allowance is intended to support you during the transition to a new job; hence the name ‘transition allowance’.

You can use the allowance, for example, for training or professional development, such as a language course. This way, you improve your prospects in the job market and make a targeted investment in your next career move.
What is a training budget?
A training budget is a development budget that employees are allowed to draw on annually. This enables you to work on your professional development and invest in new skills. Whether you are entitled to this training budget depends on your employment contract. Please check with your manager.

You do not have to use up your training budget all at once. At most organisations, you can also choose to save the budget and spend it on more expensive training courses or multi-year programmes.
Can I pay in installments?
You pay the course fee in one go. You can do this upon registration via iDEAL, credit card or an invoice to your employer. Are you required to undertake integration training? Thanks to our Blik op Werk quality mark, you can usually pay the course fees with a DUO loan.
