With this Dutch course for beginners you work towards A1-level. Step by step, you learn to understand the Dutch language and culture and practice with everyday conversations.
About the Elementary Dutch course
In this beginner’s Dutch course (A1), you’ll learn to understand the Dutch language and culture step by step. We start by learning how to greet and address people. Then we work toward having conversations. You’ll practice with everyday situations, such as meeting new people, running errands, ordering something, or going to the doctor. This way, you’ll build confidence, expand your vocabulary, and learn to communicate more independently in Dutch.
In 17 Dutch lessons:
- you’ll have an introductory meeting;
- invite someone to an activity;
- you can shop and run errands in Dutch;
- when you order something at a café or restaurant;
- you can understand simple, short texts about everyday situations;
- you have a vocabulary of about 2,000 Dutch words;
- you know the basic rules of Dutch grammar.
In this course, you will work toward language level A1. By the end, you will have learned the basics of the Dutch language, allowing you to feel at home in the Netherlands and communicate independently in everyday situations. After completing the course, you can continue with Beginner Dutch Course (A1 → A2)

Approach
During the meetings you work a lot in small groups or pairs, always under the guidance of an experienced teacher. You practice with recognizable situations from everyday life, so that you learn to apply the Dutch language directly in practice. The lessons are given in Dutch. English is used as a supporting language.
Teaching Materials
You work with the book ‘De opmaat’. This book was developed by our teachers Maud and Wim for highly educated people learning Dutch as a second language. For the self-study you will receive teaching materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the meetings. Before the start of the course we will inform you how you can easily order the teaching materials, so that you can start your lesson well prepared.
Teachers
You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will personally guide you and help you get the best out of yourself. The open atmosphere allows you to learn not only from the teacher, but also from the experiences of other students.
Certificate of Participation
You will receive a certificate of participation from us if you have actively participated in at least 80% of the meetings.
