With this course you will expand your knowledge of Portuguese. You learn to talk about the past, describe situations and give your opinion. You will work toward level A1+.
About the Portuguese 3 course
Would you like to have conversations in Portuguese more easily, for example while traveling? In this course, you’ll work on expanding your knowledge of Portuguese. Through practical exercises and real-life conversations, you’ll build your vocabulary and confidence. This will help you express yourself better in everyday situations and make it easier to connect with others. Although European Portuguese differs slightly from Brazilian Portuguese, this course will also serve you well in Brazil. Ideal for a study abroad program in Coimbra or Lisbon, or for business communication in Portuguese.
In 9 Portuguese lessons:
- Describe events and actions that took place in the past;
- you express yourself with more nuance in everyday conversations;
- talks about celebrations, traditions, and cultural customs;
- describe a city and provide simple directions;
- provide your arguments and support your opinion;
- have conversations in Portuguese with more confidence.
In this course, you’ll work toward language level A1. You’ll learn to express yourself more clearly in everyday situations and be able to have conversations with greater nuance. You’ll also expand your vocabulary and feel more confident responding spontaneously in Portuguese. After this course, you can continue with Portuguese Course 4 (A1+ → A2-)..

Who is it for?
This course is for anyone who wants to expand their basic knowledge of Portuguese. You want to have easier conversations while traveling, doing business or studying, but notice that sometimes you still miss words or are unsure about grammar. During the meetings we speak as much as possible in Portuguese, with Dutch sometimes used in a supporting role. During the course you work actively and independently on your learning goals, both in class and during self-study. The course is suitable for anyone who has mastered Portuguese at level A1.

Our teaching method combines a structured approach with hands-on working methods. The lessons are active, personal, varied and practical. There is always attention for your learning style, pace and level. Curious about how we design this course?
Approach
During the meetings you work a lot in small groups or pairs, always under the guidance of an experienced teacher. You practice using role plays and simulations with recognizable situations from everyday life, so that you learn to put Portuguese into practice immediately. You will also give feedback on each other’s work. This is not only instructive for the other, but also for yourself. During the last lesson you will have a final test in which all knowledge is repeated: grammar and vocabulary exercises.
Teaching Materials
As a teaching method we use the book ‘Português em Foco 1’. Before the start of the course we will inform you how to order the teaching material easily, so that you can start your lesson well prepared. Besides the book, the teacher sometimes hands out extra material in class and we work with music. A nice change!
Teachers
You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will personally guide you and help you get the best out of yourself. The open atmosphere allows you to learn not only from the teacher, but also from the experiences of other students.
Certificate of Participation
You will receive a certificate of participation from us if you have actively participated in at least 80% of the meetings.
