Learning goals
In the NGT level 2 course, you will work towards a basic level of Dutch Sign Language. The course is suitable for students who have completed our Dutch Sign Language level 1 course.
After completing the course you:
- can describe your profession or studies.
- can tell what you like to do in your spare time.
- know how sentences are constructed in NGT.
- know more about the deaf and hard of hearing community in the Netherlands.
- can tell a short story about your holiday.
- can express nuances in feelings through facial expression and posture.
Practical
- The language used during the meetings is Dutch Sign Language. Portraying is also allowed if people do not know how to gesture. If there are times when it is difficult to gesture or represent, then drawing or written Dutch is also a possibility to ask something or make something clear. This is done in order to break through the visual communication as little as possible.
- The course materials are from the Dutch Sign Language Centre and are included in the course.
- You will receive a certificate of participation if you have participated in 8 out of the 9 meetings.
- Do you work at Utrecht University or are you registered at this university as an (exchange) student? Then you will receive a 15% discount on this course! Register with your UU e-mail address and the discount will be processed automatically.
Time investment
- The Dutch Sign Language level 2 course consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours.
- To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the meetings, we expect you to spend approximately 3 to 4 hours per week on self-study. Of course, you will receive lesson material and assignments for this, which will be discussed during the meetings.
